A Corner That's Just Yours

Everyone needs a place in their home that is simply theirs. It does not have to be a room. A chair by a window can be enough.

I have my special spot, and it is all mine. My special chair is so cosy and warm. I have my cushion, my pillow and my books. I love the aroma of candles, and I burn them carefully. No one else sits there, and it is always a welcome spot where I can sit, think and meditate. I have favourite places in nature where I spend time too, but this corner is the one I can go to every day.

Choose your spot

Look for natural light, a little quiet, and somewhere you will not have to clear every time you use it. A corner of the bedroom, the end of a sofa, a spot by the back door.

Clear it

Take everything away that does not belong to you or does not make you happy. Bills, paperwork and other people's things go somewhere else.

Make it comfortable

Shop your own home first. A cushion or throw from another room, a small table for your cup, a lamp for the evenings. You rarely need to buy anything.

Add what makes you feel at home

A plant, a photo you love, a candle (never left burning unattended), a favourite mug, a basket for your book or your knitting. Keep it to a few things so it stays easy to enjoy.

Use it

A corner only matters if you sit in it. Choose one daily moment that belongs there: your morning tea, ten minutes of reading, a phone call with a friend.
